If you are vegetarian, what age did you decide to become one and why?
Answers:
I became a vegetarian when I was 16. I am now 21 years old and I do not miss meat at all, I do not even get cravings for meat, I simply do not need it.
I became one after I had to dissect an ox heart and a pig's head in my biology class. It grossed me out completely and I had felt sorry for those animals and I was outraged at the way they died and where they ended up - on some dissecting table where a bunch of teenagers made fun of them.
Also, the day after this happened, my mum made us a schnitzel for dinner, which was accidently a little undercooked. Basically, it tasted weird and suddenly, an image of the raw pig head on the dissecting table popped into my mind and my brain connected this picture and the taste of the undercooked meat in my mouth, and I have decided that I do not need meat in my life.
I know it shall not stop other people from eating animals, but I can happily say that I am not the one responsible for the death of animals and I know I shall not contribute to it at all. I will have nothing to do with this.

Around age 20. It started when I was pregnant and my tastes changed. Now there is NO WAY I could eat meat.
12 when my aunt told be pig hair is in hoy dogs.ok whether it is true or not,,,just the thought threw me over the edge at 18. i decided that not eating animals was better for animals, me, and the earth.
it will be 22 years this september, and i can't say i miss it.
When I was 18 I came to the realization, that eating animals was the wrong thing for me. For the last 10 years, I have not eaten any animal products, and I feel 100 percent, that I made the wright decision. I've decided I want to become a vegetarian but until I turn age 85. By then the teeth would be worn out and I'd probably be on a veggie diet anyway.
At 21. I realized I couldn't be an animal lover and a non vegetarian at the same time.
<Sonya hit the nail right on the head! For me, it was after I realized how the animals are treated before getting to the supermarket in the meat case for lazy meat eaters : ) as borned in veg family, i am vegetarion.
But as i grown up i know the things. I know the cruelty made to animals for food. And because of this I HATE NON-VEGETARIONS and also JESUS CHRIST who was non-veg.

truemanonroad@yahoo.co.in <I became a vegetarian when I was 12 because I checked out "Animal Liberation" by peter singer to do a book report against animal experimentation. I was armed with knowledge and I never looked back( I am now 21)!!!! Like I tell people now, I'm a vegetarian because I'm simply not comfortable with eating an animal. Animals are my friends. I would not be able to live with myself knowing that many animals were being murdered for my consumption just to be **** out into the toilet and flushed away. I'm not that greedy.

read: "Animal Liberation" by Peter Singer Aged ten. My mum was (and is) vegetarian, which I suppose made it easy for me to become vegetarian at such a young age.
Meat just seemed revolting all of a sudden.
That was twenty five and a bit years ago now. In that time so much has changed in England in terms of restaurants, public attitudes, availablity of ready meals etc.
Meat still seems revolting to me when I really think about it, but to be honest it just isn't an issue in my life. I still consume eggs and dairy products though, which some people might not understand. French cheeses - who could give them up? Not so keen on eggs to be honest.
In those twenty five years I have eaten meat two or three times by accident (thinking something was vegetarian when it wasn't) but just discretely gone to the toilet and spat it out in a tissue and flushed it down the loo.
I try not to get hung up about it all really - life's too short.
Hope that answers your question. All the best. I became a vegetarian at age 11 because I didn't feel right eating an animal. I am now working on vegan and to get dissection out of my school. I really think animals have rights and don't want to support cruelty to them.
