Is she really a vegetarian??
my best friend claims that she is a vegetarian... she's been engaged in this lifestyle for quite some time now.. BUT she eats shrimp, is she really a vegetarian?? I tell her NO, but she swears she is... any feedback??
Answer:
Re. "Many vegetarians eat fish and seafood" -- no. There isn't a single one.
There're apparently plenty of liars and confused folk, but -- a fish-eating vegetarian is a contradiction in terms.
Terms pretty universally accepted. You know. By dictionaries, by vegetarian societies worldwide, etc.
"Vegetarians don’t eat fish and they never have. Many things have changed since The Vegetarian Society was founded in 1847 but two important definitions haven’t:
“ VEGETARIAN” – someone who doesn’t eat animals
“ FISH” – cold-blooded, water-dwelling animal"

Who cares?? Really? It's just a word. Why are you so critical of your friend? Why not just accept her? No matter how dumb she may be.
A true vegetarian eats only fruits and veggies. Some semi vegetarians eat only fish and chicken. No red meet....
yup she is...fish is not considered to be meat
She is what's called a pesco vegetarian, meaning she eats fish.
If she considers herself to be vegetarian, I'm not sure exactly why you feel the need to "correct" her. That seems a bit presumptuous.
Many vegetarians eat fish and seafood. It depends on how strict you are being and for what reason.
No. Tell her too look up the definition in the dictionary
Main Entry: 1veg·e·tar·i·an
Pronunciation: "ve-j&-'ter-E-&n
Function: noun
Etymology: 2vegetable + -arian
1 : one who believes in or practices vegetarianism
2 : HERBIVORE
Herbivore means no meat, not even shrimp. Perhaps she should call herself a semi-vegetarian.
There are different kind of vegetarian. Your frind is a Pesce- Vegetarian because she eats see food (in this case shrimp).
You can resrach all type of vegeratians out there, we have the lacto-vegeratian, in which they will not have any type of dairy products, and are considered vegetarians. And there are many more
she's a pescatarian.
they eat fish.
My biology teacher is one.
Yes, vegetarians can be divided into several categories: pesco-ovo-lacto vegetarians eat fish as well. Fish is not considered a meat, and shrimp is even less of a meat, as it is equivalent to eating insects of the sea. It's as if someone claimed they were vegetarian, but ate grubs out of tree bark, or ants or something like that.
No, she definitely is NOT a vegetarian. Vegetarians eat no meat at all. Fish is MEAT, chicken is MEAT, turkey is MEAT, shrimp is MEAT, etc. This pesce-vegetarian stuff is bulls**t.
No, she's not a true vegetarian, she would be a Pesco-Vegetarian, they include fish in their diet.
Total Vegetarians eat only plant food. They do not eat any animal foods, including fish, eggs, dairy products, and honey.
Vegans not only omit all animal products from their diets, but they also eliminate them from the rest of their life. Vegans use nothing from animals, such as leather, wool, and silk.
Lacto-Vegetarians will include dairy products into their diet of plant food.
Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarians eat both eggs and dairy products.
Pesco-Vegetarians include fish into their diets.
Pollo-Vegetarians eat poultry, such as chicken, turkey, and duck.
No. She eats the flesh of an animal with a complex nervous system. True vegetarians limit their diets to plants, algae, and fungi. I don't buy the pesco-vegetarian cop-out. If you willingly and knowingly eat animals (even shrimp), you're not a vegetarian.
No. Vegetarians do not eat animals. There is no such thing as a pesco-vegetarian either. If you see an article online mentioning what word, it was written by uninformed people.
A vegetarian only eats vegetable and under animal products (eggs, milk and its made with and honey) a shrimp is an animal so that she' s not really but if she eats sea food and fish she' s PESCO VEGETARIAN.
Vegan don't eat any animal or under animal products.
Some people have a global tendency to a restrictive feeding but sometimes they make an exception. IT IS NOT WHAT GOES INTO MAN S MOUTH THAT MAKES HIM DIRTY BUT WHAT GETS OUT HIS MOUTH.
Vegetarians do not eat animals... ever.... of any kind.
Not eating dead animals is in fact, *specifically* what vegetarians do. It is fine if a person eats fish, but that person is in no way any type of vegetarian.
There is no *type* of vegetarian that eats certain animals. None. Eating animals and being a vegetarian are mutually-exclusive terms. If people even like to use the term "pescatarian" that is fine... there is no real purpose for it, but if people like to have a label, it is up to them. But a pescatarian is NO type of vegetarian.. there is NO pesco-vegetarian either.
There is also no *demi* or *semi* anything... you either are or you aren't. People who call themselves demi-whatever are omnivores. They eat animals. They eat vegetables.
One who eats fish or chicken is not accepted by any vegetarian society, but only by people with junk websites who have no idea what they are talking about.
Vegetarian = No Animals
People who eat fish and feel the need to call themselves vegetarians only make life difficult for real vegetarians. Thanks to them when a vegetarian requests a vegetarian meal, some ill-informed person may stick a dead animal in it.
I have worked very hard at this lifestyle because it is something I believe in. (That is why we might sound a bit anal.) I imagine it is a bit how my grandma (devout Catholic) feels when her usually-empty church fills up every Christmas and Easter. You are happy that so many people come and *believe,* but you wonder why they weren't there last week and why they wont be there next week to practice their faith.
It is wonderful that she has given up eating so many animals, and kudos to her... but she still isn't a veg.
:)
no she's a person who eats vegg and shirmp
She's not a true vegetarian. Because Fish IS meat, end of story.
