Does sashimi taste good?
I've wondered about this for a while.. so I might as well ask! :D
Is sashimi actually good? I mean.. it's just raw fish, with maybe some soy sauce or wasabi..
What does it acually taste like???
Should I go try it for myself? Would it be worth my time? Of course.. I would have to find a place that sells it, I live in the middle of nowhere.. :P
Also, is eating sashimi a high risk for catching illness from bacteria in raw food?
Thanks for looking at my question! ^_^
Answer:
Heh.. well i think it's one of those personal preference issues so I won't pretend to tell you you'll like it..
One way to see if you'll be OK is to see if you can handle a tuna steak. It's usually cooked very rare bearly seared on the outside. If you are OK with the raw inside you can probably move on to sashimi. Maybe stick with just tuna (maguro) for starters. You can also go with a maki (roll). the ratio of rice to fish is higher so you won't be hit with so much fish at once.
On the issues of bacteria, if you go to any decent joint you shouldn't have to worry about it. precautions are taken to check the fish for parasites. the freezing process (if the fish was flown in frozen) will usually kill most parasites. Bacteria is more an issue of how the fish is handled after it's been caught. A decent sushi restaurant will not have this problem.
Even a little bacteria is ok.. your body can handle it. (but they say stay away if you're preggers! Not worth the risk.)
i'd say try it once :) with soy sauce and with or without wasabi.. (try wasabi on it's own first (like a small dot) and see if you can handle the burn heh)
sashimi tastes good and you should try it when you get a chance.
Yes it great. maybe you should hold off on the wasabi because its really H-O-T hot! or maybe eel sauce or scallop sauce. you should try because sushi resturants or resturants that serve raw fish pickgrade A fish that is less likely to have a parasite. For example in maryland a good sushi resturant is edo sushi.
Sashimi is AWESOME....but you have to develop a taste for it. It just might taste like raw fish to you.
And there is always a risk in eating raw food...seafood especially.
It would definately be worth your time. You should always be willing to try something new. Never limit yourself
No its disgusting.... from the taste to the texture its just all bad. I don't like much fish so maybe I'm bias but I think its gross and it being raw does have its risks in itself.
your really dont have anything to lose so go for it
Sashimi is very tastey! I like just a little soy sauce. I also like it in a salad. It's also very good with Masago (fish eggs). YUM! Yes try it...then you can say that you have. The fish is kept at a very cold temp. so not to get any bacteria. Enjoy!
If it is fresh it is really good. If you don't live on the ocean I would not recomend it because it is not good if it has been frozen I think. I live in Hawaii so I am spoiled with super fresh fish that has been caught the same day I eat it. Try it! You never know you might love it
For someone who claims to have never eaten it you seem to know a lot about how (you forgot to mention the shaved ginger, though).
For me, my sister, and a lot of friends, sushi and sashimi became absolutely addictive one we tried it!
I do not believe there is abnormal bacterial risk. And what little there is seems to be eliminated if you enjoy it washed down with wine or sake or brandy or other spirits (but not beer - not alcoholic enough), according to scientific studies.
Sashimi is very tasty~ But it is definitely an acquired taste. I would recommend going to a NICE Japanese restaraunt if it is going to be your first time. That way you know you'll be eating fresh fish, prepared to perfection. You should definitely go. I don't know if you'll like it too much at first, but eat it 2-3 times, and you'll love it. I suggest that you get a couple of other dishes like "yakisoba" (fried noodles) or sushi rolls (i.e california rolls, crunchy rolls...) to compliment the taste. After a while, you'll be eating that raw meat like a true Japanese person.
To answer your second question, you have a higher risk for catching illnesses eating a burrito.
Yes, it tastes good if you like raw fish and seafood, which have different flavors. You also dip the sashimi in a mix of soy sauce and wasabi. It can be dangerous if the fish is old and you could get a very bad case of food poisoning. If you don't live close to any ocean it maybe dificult to get the freshest fish and seafood. It is not recommended to eat sashimi made from frozen fish.
Sashimi is a wonderful experience - you need to at least try it! It tastes incredibly fresh - because it is, and there is nothing else like it! Tuna and Salmon (maguro and sake) are my faves! They are very mild, yet scrumptious!
As long as you're at reputable restaurant, do not worry about bacteria...
I have loved it from the start...you have got to at least give it a shot!
Be sure to let us know when you try it and what you think, okay?
It's very much a question of personal taste. You won't know if it's to your particular taste without trying it. Neither can anyone else.
If you live in the middle of nowhere, though, wait until you're in the middle of somewhere to try it. It's the same grade fish as is sushi, and that's the top grade and served absolutely fresh.
I think sashimi is delicious.
depending on what you get, it usually has a buttery taste and texture. sometimes it could have a rubbery and neutral texture and taste, as with octopus.
unless you live close to the ocean, you are not gonig to get the freshest fish.
many culinary experts will tell you that you are crazy to eat it if you don't live by the ocean.
a little research doesn't hurt. ask them where they get their fish from, and find out if their suppliers only serve fish that was flown in (or caught) that day.
also, fish that has been frozen is not good, b/c when you thaw the fish, there are bacterial risks. anytime you go from one temp. extreme to another, there is a risk.
now, I live in the midwest and I still eat sashimi all the time. any decent place should not give you a problem, but you would be surprised.
i think u should try it ^^ its really good..i love it a ton lol and like dont worry about bacteria..like that is what the wasabi is there for..it cleanses the body from it..cause of how spicy it is. and i would say it is definitely worht ur time..if u are willing to try
