I want to start an annual Burns night dinner, is canned haggis close to the real thing?
I see where it can be ordered. I can't imagine a Floridian making it from scratch. If I order it, will it be good to serve, or different, as in corned beef and canned corned beef?
Answer:
There is a definate difference between scratch and canned. With that said, I have served "Caldonian Kitchen" brand when catering Burns Dinners, and Celtic functions and it is always a hit. It is all beef, which is a little non-traditinoal, but people just suck it down. I recommend it. If you really want to try to make it from scratch, and have a meat grinder, email me, and I will be glad to share a good, and labor intensive recipe for Americanized Haggis with you.
i would look around im sure there is a butcher nearby who makes it or perhaps one further afield who will mail it
haggis i traditionally make with the use of a stomach lining and the meat stuffed inside with spices etc. I really don't think that canned haggis Willl be the same. as the person below said shop around i am sure you wil get a good deal from a rel butchers they may even be able to order it in special for you. although this may be costly but if price is no problem good luck an enjoy.
I am half Scottish myself an this s a great dish to have i hope your meal turns out well. Good luck
i'll think about your question later right now my head is in the gutter over this callie slide thing
