Walmart carries a ready caramel dip (for apples and such) in the produce section. It's sold in tubs similar to those you find sour cream in. It's really good and really easy.

I just melt Kraft caramels.
Any tins of caramel I buy would not stick to the apples.It's made for ice cream toppings etc.

It doesn't come in cans to my knowledge, you can buy Kraft caramel cubes in the baking isle and there are directions on the package how to melt them with milk.
Do you have a local Dairy Queen or Sonic? They may be willing to sell you a can...just ask for the manager.
Use a can of condensed (not evaporated) milk. Cover with water in a medium size saucepan. Put on the lowest heat with the saucepan cover on and leave for several hours. This really works and turns into a delicious caramel.
