Do you rinse your pasta after cooking?

Other Answers:
I do
There is no need to- unless you want it to stop cooking, because even after you strain the pasta, it still cooks a little from the heat, but you can stop that by rinsing it in cold water.
thats what i do i think it should say on the noodle package
some people say it gets rid of the extra starch on the pasta when you rinse them. I have personaly tried both rinse and no rinse and find no difference if you consume them immediatly.
However if you want to stick em in the fridge, i highly recommend rinsing because otherside the pasta becomes dry. You can also leave them in the water.
if you are going to rinse, do it with hot water so that the temperature of your pastas stays hot

Some people say that if you want your sauce to stick to your pasta, don't rinse it. Put your sauce on it immediately after draining, to stop the cooking process. If you're making a macaroni salad, rinse in very cold water, preparing it for the cold mayo. It will chill faster in the fridge too, & be ready to serve quicker. <*)))><
If you're planning on adding a sauce and serving it immediately, don't rinse. The sauce should adhere to the pasta better. If it's for a cold salad, definitely rinse off the extra starch so the pasta won't stick to the other ingredients.
Yes, It is to rinse off the starch, thus making them less sticky when cool. If you are not cooking them to eat a later time you don't really need to rinse them.

I have been a chef for over 3o years.
Using adequate salted water should prevent sticking. I've never found any need to rinse. In fact, I find that make pasta a little chewier than I prefer (the shock seizes up the fibers, I think). I undercook pasta in the water, then leave it warm after straining to let it finish. If sticking is a problem, toss with olive oil.
So, no, I don't rinse my pasta after cooking. The act of straining does it for me.

We're on a budget. Pasta is the staple of poor people!
straining does well, and cold water for salad! i soak my pasta some type more than other. cooking time is one third that one package. why use the gas, pay for heating more than getting most pasta hot. works on rice, an dry beans, too!
Until my recent trip to Rome, Italy, I always rinsed my pasta. I discovered that the pasta was not rinsed and the sauce did stick to it nicely. I now follow the traditional pasta rules of no rinsing.
No, but I add a little olive oil or butter to keep it from sticking.
Only if I am making pasta salad. If I am making a hot dish, I don't
The pasta does not need to be rinsed. Your sauce will stick to the pasta much better. Leave a little water with the pasta if you aren't going to add the sauce right away. This will help the pasta from sticking.
